STOP WHINING / START COUNTING Thanksgiving is upon us and yes, most would agree that times have been tough here …or have they? Everything is relative. When hard times hit, it’s easy to whine. Perhaps we just need to count our blessings more. Let’s click a mental ‘refresh’ through the eyes of others to remind us how truly blessed we are to live in this land called America. As a result of a church partnership mission project, our community had two gentlemen, Elirehema and Tareto, from Tanzania visit our town. What is their home like? Their people were starving due to the drought; they had little water; they lived in homes built of brick using mud and termite hills. Tareto had to walk two hours each day to get to school and two hours back. They were in awe at the homes we lived in; couldn’t believe it when their hosts turned on a faucet and out came water; and then there was the shower, the microwave, refrigerator and the vacuum. They saw fields of plentiful corn, which is used to feed our cows (not people), and in the grocery store they were shocked to see we had canned food for our dogs. They saw the city lights of Milwaukee and experienced a ride in a strange box we call an elevator. Their eyes were filled with the realities of our unimaginable world. Tareto commented that their villagers had heard of these things but believed them to be made-up stories. Then he said: Now I can tell them these things ARE real. I have seen them with my own eyes. HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE Learning to be more grateful can change your life; make you more productive; increase your happiness and well-being; and may even help you live longer.
Woe-is-me thinking will limit you; gratefulness will lift you up. TAKE AN EMAIL CHILL Every once in awhile we need to respond to an email that has just ticked us off. TIP: Go ahead and draft a reply but do not put the address in or send it. Instead, let it simmer on your computer awhile. Now take a walk, have lunch, do something to get your mind off it. If possible, sleep on it until the next day. When you go back to reread your reply, remove those angry innuendos. By letting your emotions cool down, you will gain clarity and allow your professional calm prevail. Always take the high road, it’s a road seldom traveled. SPARK YOUR TURKEY TABLE

SIMPLE SOLUTION - TIRED OF PHONE MARKETERS? For those pesky calls, try this. When the party starts speaking simply say: Please remove me from your call list. I’ve tried it and it works! By law, they must have a call list sheet handy and honor your request. (If you haven’t registered your numbers with the National Call List Registry, you will want to do that. It should take care of the majority of telemarketing calls: www.donotcall.gov | |||||

LEADERSHIP 101 – THANKSGIVING TOAST Let us toast to our blessings and good fortune on this Thanksgiving Day. === Let us give a toast in thanks for all of our blessings.
