BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE
PLANTED – JUST DO IT! Did you ever notice how flowers bloom in
all their glory with such a sense of purpose? Spring produced such a
promise of summer. Now, As I’ve been busy planting my summer
annuals, I’m constantly hoping they do well. But I am reminded
that, just as in our own successes, it takes more than
‘hope’. For flowers, it’s positioning in
relation to the sun, it’s consistency in watering, etc. For us to
bloom as individuals we need: -
Preparation: Take your goal and break it down into every
day tasks. What do you need to do today to sharpen your skills, your
image, your energy, your resume, or your service? -
Positioning: Place yourself in the best position
today to open an opportunity for you tomorrow. Position yourself for NEW
experiences. Too often we repeat the same old patterns and then wonder why
nothing new comes our way. Who do you need to be talking with? Explore
new horizons. How can you position yourself as an expert? -
Discipline: Have a sense of Purpose and focus on it. Resist
the temptation to clean or whatever it is you do when you want to
procrastinate. FOCUS.
Complete what it is you must you must do. Squelch temptations to
put things off, instead become a person of action. Commit,
commit, commit. -
Consistency: Be consistently dependable. Become a
person of your word. Do you
Always do what you say
you are going to do? Dependability builds trust and confidence And referrals. If you want something you never had before, you have to do something you’ve never done before.
Zig Ziglar RUNNING LATE?
UP TIGHT? - BREATHE Stress will never go away completely, but how you
manage everyday blips can keep hormones on a more even — and healthy
— keel. Deep breathing is the top anti-stress pick of Prevention
advisor Andrew Weil, MD: He makes time for it at least twice a day. “It
only takes 2 minutes,” he says. “I do it in the morning, when
I’m falling asleep in the evening, and anytime I feel upset.” Try it: Exhale strongly through the mouth, making a
whoosh sound. Breathe in quietly through the nose for a count of 4. Hold your
breath for a count of 7, then, exhale with the whoosh for a count of 8.
Repeat the cycle 3 more times. LEAVE THE FLIP FLOPS
AT HOME With the summer sizzle, we excitedly
bring out our warm weather shoes. While women have unlimited opportunities
for fun, casual and weekend designs, we need to remember the importance of
the shoes that we choose to wear to work. The Sound. Every hear someone wish squeaky
shoes? Yikes it can drive you willies! This year more than ever we are also seeing
more and more new women’s shoes with the smaller heels. A
person’s shoes can be annoying to others if they are noisy. This is
particularly noticeable in hallways and departments that are not
carpeted. Some of the smaller heeled shoes actually tap with each
step. If you hear it, others do too. The Look. Depending on the message you need to
send, choose dress shoes that support the fact that you are serious about
your work. Because of all the choices, women need to be a bit more
selective. Closed toe and heel pumps are premiere examples of meaning
business. There are many styles that fit this category and are now offered in
great trendy designs and colors. Your options vary depending on the industry
that you are in -more relaxed or intense business. When in doubt, choose
the most conservative…And YES, you do have to still polish your shoes!
You would be amazed at the numbers of people who use your shoes as an
indicator of who you are. You are the billboard for the person you want to be. |

Thanks to Marlys for sharing one way to spark the
workplace spirit! Being
situated in a health care department, we are limited and restricted by
policies as to just how far we can go with our silliness. However, we
still manage to have fun and it usually includes food. This year, since
I received over ten pounds of fudge ice cream topping from a very
appreciative patient, we are planning an ice cream social that will include
several flavors of ice cream and a variety of other toppings for make-your-own-sundaes.
Brownies, cookies and bars will also be included – all
calorie-free since the calories escape when cut and there are never any
calories when eating with friends.
Marlys
Swanson, Are you doing anything
uniquely fun to spark the spirit at your workplace? We’d love to
hear from you! |
